Manual to Auto

Thinking about switching to an Automatic? Let's make sure it feels right first

If you’ve been driving a manual for years, the idea of switching to an automatic can feel a bit strange. You’ve built up muscle memory, you know your way around a gear stick, and suddenly someone’s telling you to just… not bother with any of that. It’s a fair thing to feel unsure about.

That’s exactly why I offer this session. Before you spend money on a new car, come and find out how an automatic actually feels with 90 minutes of hands-on driving in a real dual-controlled automatic car. No commitment, no pressure. Just a chance to try it properly and leave feeling confident about your decision.

Why Automatics are taking over

Manual cars have been the default in the UK for a long time and there’s nothing wrong with them. But things are shifting pretty quickly. In 2024 alone, 1.5 million automatic cars were sold in the UK, and every fully electric vehicle on the market is automatic.

Manufacturers like Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus have already stopped offering manual gearboxes on new models altogether. Out of 300 car models available to UK buyers last year, only 89 were still manuals.

Whether you’re thinking about going electric, or just want something less stressful for your daily commute, automatics are becoming hard to avoid. And honestly, once you’ve driven one, most people wonder why they didn’t switch sooner.

What the session covers

This isn’t a lesson in the traditional sense. It’s a relaxed, practical 90 minute session designed specifically for experienced drivers making the switch.

You’ll get:

  • A full introduction to automatic controls, including park, reverse, neutral, drive and manual shift modes
  • Guidance on adapting your driving style from manual to automatic
  • Confidence building practice with starts, stops, hill starts and junctions
  • Real world driving so you can feel how an automatic handles in traffic and on roundabouts
  • Plenty of time for questions, so you leave with a clear head and no lingering doubts

Who is this for?

This session is perfect if you’ve always driven a manual but are seriously considering buying an automatic. Maybe you’re not sure if it’ll feel right after so many years of gear changes. Maybe you just don’t want to spend that much on a new car without trying it first. Either way, 90 minutes with me will give you a much clearer picture.
