About Matt

Hi, I'm Matt. Your automatic driving instructor covering Tamworth, Lichfield, Sutton Coldfield and North Birmingham.

I’m a fully qualified Government Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) and honestly, teaching people to drive is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. There’s nothing quite like seeing someone go from nervous and unsure to confident and independent behind the wheel. That moment when it all clicks, that’s why I do this.

How I got here

I’m originally from Birmingham, and before becoming a driving instructor I studied Sports and Physical Education at University Centre Peterborough. It was there that I first got really interested in how people think, how they learn, and what holds them back. I’m not a psychologist, and I’d never claim to be, but that curiosity about how people’s minds work has stuck with me and genuinely shapes the way I teach.

It’s part of why I specialise in nervous and anxious learners. I understand that for many people, getting behind the wheel isn’t just about learning a skill, it’s about overcoming something. Whether that’s a fear of making mistakes, a bad experience with a previous instructor, or just general anxiety about being in control of a car, I get it. And I know how to help.

What you can expect from lessons with me

Every lesson is calm, patient and completely judgement free. I’m not here to rush you or make you feel like you’re falling behind. I’m here to help you build real confidence at a pace that works for you.

I only teach in automatic cars, which I genuinely believe makes the whole experience less stressful. Without gears and a clutch to think about, you can put all your focus into becoming a better, safer driver. It’s not a shortcut. It’s just a smarter way to learn for many people.

I’ll always be straight with you about your progress. You’ll know exactly what you’re doing well and what we need to work on. No waffle, no false reassurance.  Just honest, supportive instruction.

A bit about me outside of work

Outside of work I’m pretty easy going. I love going to gigs, I’m a big gamer, and any chance I get, I’ll be off exploring somewhere new on my motorbike. I live in Tamworth with my fiancĂ©e, so I’m very much a local. I know these roads because I drive them every day.

Why I love this job

The best part of this job isn’t just the pass, although honestly, that never gets old. It’s the little moments along the way. The first time someone gets through a roundabout they’ve been dreading. The lesson where a nervous learner finally relaxes and realises they’re actually enjoying themselves. That stuff means a lot to me.

If you’re thinking about learning to drive, or you’ve had a go before and it didn’t work out, just drop me a message. No pressure at all. I’m happy to have a chat and figure out the best way I can help you.

What do my learners think?
